ABF Events : RENT at Trustus Theater (purchase tickets here) Please join the AIDS Benefit Foundation of South Carolina for a special preview performance of RENT at Trustus Theater on Thursday, September 9, 2010. The show, which has been brought back by popular demand, follows a year in the lives of seven friends living the disappearing Bohemian lifestyle in New York’s East Village. Managing HIV/AIDS, both the physical effects and emotional toll pervades the lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom and Angel. Maureen deals with her chronic infidelity through performance art; her partner Joanne, wonders if their relationship is worth the trouble; Benjamin has sold out his Bohemian ideas in exchange for a hefty income and is on the outs with his former friends; and Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, feels like an outsider to life in general, always behind the camera recording the events, but never playing a part. Each year, South Carolina ranks in the top ten states in the nation for the rate of new diagnoses of HIV per capita. The AIDS Benefit Foundation of South Carolina, founded over twenty years ago, is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to raise and distribute money to those helping others in dealing with issues related to HIV/AIDS and to those who are actively raising awareness of the disease throughout the community. With the help of fellow members of the community, ABFSC can work to help change the outlook of HIV/AIDS in South Carolina. The AIDS Benefit Foundation of South Carolina will be presenting its second annual Palmetto Holiday Showcase November 18th-21st, 2010 at the South Carolina State Museum. This event will include beautiful Christmas trees, wreaths, and ornaments decorated by local businesses and artists, and the public is invited to bid on these items in order to raise money for South Carolinians affected by HIV and AIDS. Friday night, there will be a black tie optional gala featuring the Craig Woolard Band, heavy hors d'oeuvres and bar. The gala will also feature an exclusive silent auction giving patrons a chance to find unique items that will make great gifts, all benefitting the AIDS Benefit Foundation of South Carolina. The Palmetto Holiday Showcase Gala offers an opportunity for everyone to join and support their community in raising money to help others who are living with HIV/AIDS, as well as those who are affected by the disease. We invite you to attend this wonderful event. All proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction will go to the AIDS Benefit Foundation of South Carolina to help those affected by HIV/AIDS. As a host, you open your home to your friends and family, asking each guest to bring a donation. Making things easy is our Host Home Committee which will give you all the assistance you may need - invitations, envelopes, instructions and any other necessary paperwork for throwing a momentous event. Dining With Friends parties can have as few as four guests at an intimate dinner or a grand gala with as many guests as your venue can accommodate. It can be hors d'oeuvres and drinks, a seven course seated dinner, or a barbeque in the backyard... whatever suits the host! Many guests choose to think out of the box and throw a "Theme Dinner". Theme dinners are a creative and exciting way to make sure your guests have a wonderful Dining With Friends experience. You may choose to give your party anytime that pleases you, and your guest may still attend the Dessert Finale. Many hosts give their party on the Friday or Saturday before, allowing themselves the luxury of also attending another party. Some choose to host a party the same night as the finale which allows theme parties to show their spirit in supporting such a worthy cause. Some say, What about a Sunday brunch? Some may also co-host with two or more individuals.The entire purpose is simple... to inform the community, by supporting a much needed cause while being surrounded by people who care. Dining with Friends Dessert Finale (click here for details) In celebration of those who attended a Dining with Friends event. There will be a gathering of everyone to enjoy desserts, coffee, and cocktails. The "Dessert Finale" features desserts from food venues throughout the state and is a great opportunity to meet and great members of the community that share a common cause... supporting the community in which they live in. A silent auction is held during the Dessert Finale. Artwork, merchandise, and other valuable items from local supporters will be available for viewing and bidding on.
